Club Night Photos for Wednesday 10th May 2023 - Open Workshop Evening
The meeting held on Wednesday 10th May was a Hands On - Open Workshop night. Although, we did not have a demonstrator, there was plenty to see and do. The idea of a hands on/ casual/ no agenda evening was well supported when it was floated at the AGM in November 2022. This was an opportunity to have a 'play' on a Club lathe and to get some tuition free of charge. There were five specific areas set up for the evening:
Bob Sawyer - bowl turning, techniques and tooling
Richard Branscombe - spindle turning, use of the skew chisel, and DIY home made jigs and tools
Tim Mortimer - experience hollowing using his home-built rig
Bill Savage - hand thread chasing, techniques and tools
Bob Wells - applying a design to and piercing thin wall vessels
The general message was "Don't Be Shy - Give It a Go", these guys are all here to help you!
Members were invited to bring along any projects or tools that they may be having difficulties with.
Alternatively, quite a few Members used the opportunity to socialise and just observe others working.
Honorary Member Vernon Hughes generously donated a quantity of native and exotic timber to the Club - this raised almost £120 - thank you for the generous contributions to Club funds from Club Members.
It was an interactive, relaxed, casual and social evening - with over thirty Members in attendance, along with a good number of Visitors. There is a strong suspicion that this type of event may be repeated in the future…
