Club Night Photos for 14th February 2018 - Guest Demonstrator - Les Thorne

Our demonstrator for February was Les Thorne who can be guaranteed to entertain, inform and inspire and this Meeting was true to form.
To say that he demonstrated the turning, texturing and colouring of a box in ash would be an over-simplification of what was a tour de force in woodturning. His mastery of the tools is accompanied by a non stop commentary that is frequently amusing and always full of information for every level of ability. The texturing was achieved using an Arbortech tool fitted with mini industrial blade. The colouring was done using an airbrush and several different colour stains to finish off a very attractive box.
He spent the final part of the evening demonstrating the use of the skew chisel to turn beads. He used a variety of skews, even an improvised chisel and a screwdriver(!), to show how there is nothing to fear when the tool is properly used.

The display table included a tall, laminated vase by Richard Balmforth, a spalted goblet by Bob Wells and several items by Richard and David Branscombe (including some items that did not go to plan).
