Club Night Photos for 12th December 2018 - Club Christmas Party and Your Best Item Made in 2018
A good turnout of over 40 members and guests were treated to an entertaining evening with plentiful food and drink (a big thank you to Heather Crawshaw).
There were demonstrations of: piercing and pyrography (David Branscombe), turning a goblet with a captive ring (Richard Branscombe), hand thread chasing (Ken Crittle), and using Yorkshire Grit for finishing (Richard Balmforth).
There were a variety of tools and jigs on display, and a particularly good display by Richard Balmforth showing how he creates his segmented work. Richard had also kindly donated some high quality wood and this was auctioned off to several happy purchasers.
The two annual competitions were well supported with plenty of high quality work.
The Christmas Themed competition was won by Bob Wells with a pair of yew wood Christmas trees, Second was Heather Crawshaw with a decorated candle holder, and in Third place was Arthur Kingdon with a snowman in sycamore and black walnut.
The Best Item of the Year 2018 competition was won by Roger Hoare, with a splendid segmented piece which must have taken hundreds of hours to make. In Second Place was Bob Wells with three goblets in spalted beech and black walnut, while Dave Newman took third spot with his, steam punk inspired, oak lamp.
After being presented with the Ian Hooker trophy, Roger announced that, as he had won the competition four years in a row, he would abstain from entering next year.
